Banking industry sees higher trust from consumers: Nielsen

Banks gained more customers last year as more people deposited money and felt the benefit of the facilities that banks offered to them, a survey says.
According to Nielsen Indonesia, the number of local banking customers rose 20 percent to 9.5 million in nine big cities last year, up from 8 million a year before.
The cities surveyed were; Bandung, West Java; Denpasar, Bali; Greater Jakarta; Makassar, South Sulawesi; Medan, North Sumatra; Palembang, South Sumatra; Semarang, Central Java; Surabaya, East Java; and Yogyakarta.
Nielsen Indonesia director for financial services Dena Firmayuansyah said Tuesday that the jump in the number of savings accounts showed that “consumers’ trust for this institution has been increasing over the years”.
“We expect to see more growth as banks continue promotion themselves through advertising,” he said here in a press conference.
He also said customers’ habits had changed over time in line with the development of banking services.
“In the 80’s, people would put money in banks just to save money. In the 90’s, the bank industry started to introduce ATMs that gave customers more convenience,” Dena said.
“And now, bank has become a one-stop solution that offers various products including bank assurance, investment products, etc…. With these facilities, it's easier for people to connect with banks.”
Yogyakarta recorded the highest proportion of bank customers with 40 percent of respondents claiming to own savings accounts, followed by 35 percent of respondents in Jakarta, 31 percent of respondents in Surabaya and 33 percent of respondents in Semarang.
According to Nielsen, the lowest penetration was recorded in Greater Jakarta, especially in Bogor, Depok, Tanggerang and Bekas, which accounted for almost half of all of the people surveyed.
Dena said the level of education and types of jobs people had in big cities also determined the level of bank penetration.
“Consumers in big cities are relying on banking institutions to help them keep their money safe … using banks as a medium to keep their monthly salary or as a place to save for rainy days,” he said.

Comment        :
Lately, Bank is being progressed untill now. There are many private banks appear to offer many facilities. Not only for saving, but also for assurance, investment product, etc. But, although the facilities make our life easier, such as taking money, transfer money, etc with the atm, there is a big problem must be eclipsed soon. In Indonesia, the crime in Banking ATM machine seems to be a trend. ATM cards can be easily duplicated and be taken without being noticed by the owner of the account. A severity, it usually done by internal account banking. Irony..
I hope this case can be eclipsed soon by bank. If this problem can be solved, I’m sure that customers will be increased more than this.

Gaga speaks out about Jakarta drama

US pop singer Lady Gaga has broken her silence on the long-running drama over her planned Jakarta concert, making note of censorship concerns and threats of violence against her.
After more than a week conflicting statements and international headlines over whether authorities would allow the June 3 concert in Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta to go ahead, Gaga used her Twitter account, @ladygaga, to provide two brief statements.
"The Jakarta situation is 2-fold: Indonesian authorities demand I censor the show & religious extremist separately, are threatening violence," she posted on Tuesday. “If the show does go on as scheduled, I will perform the BTWBall [Born This Way Ball] alone.”
One of those authorities is Religious Affairs Minister Suryadharma Ali, who said last week that Gaga "indulges in pornography by wearing revealing costumes" and that she would have a negative influence on young Indonesians.
There are also groups like the Islam Defenders Front (FPI), which has expressed strong opposition to the Grammy Award-winning artist, with one FPI chief, Habib Salim Alatas, saying that Gaga brings "the faith of Satan to our country and thus will destroy the nation’s morals".
FPI spokesman, Munarman, told reporters on Tuesday that Indonesian Christians should praise the FPI, as well as other Islamic organizations for opposing the American singer Lady Gaga’s concert in the country.
"Lady Gaga has obviously misused symbols of Christianity, such as the cross, in her work," he said on the sidelines of a meeting with the House of Representatives Commission III overseeing law and human rights, citing Gaga's song "Judas" as an example.
”We should be praised for what we have done instead of being condemned for threatening religious minority groups,” he added
Gaga's ability to perform in the country hinges on whether the National Police issues her a concert permit.
Article 15 of the 2002 Police Law stipulates that it is the National Police who have the authority "to issue a permit for, and monitor activities, involving crowds".
After saying last week that it would not issue a concert permit for the pop singer, the National Police are now saying that one would be issued if Gaga’s concert promoters can get recommendations from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) and the Religious Affairs Ministry.
In response to the move made by the National Police, University of Indonesia sociologist Sarlito Wirawan Sarwono has accused police of trying to “make friends” to divert some of the blame over the Lady Gaga controversy.
“Police rarely get support from the community, no matter what they do. So this time they make friends with those institutions so they are not the only ones to be blamed,” he said.
Sarlito said that behind all the Gaga brouhaha lies the competition to show which group had the most power and could benefit from it.
“Unfortunately, we find no role for the state to calm things down and take control of everything,” he said.
Meanwhile, a criminal sociologist from the same university, Muhammad Mustofa, said the inconsistency between the two police forces showed that there was no clear criteria dividing them.
In related development of the concert, The Immigration Office has revealed that American singer Lady Gaga has already obtained a visa to enter Indonesia.
Immigration Office,  spokesman Maryoto Sumadi said that the visa was issued last month.
“Administrative-wise, every requirement has been met,” Maryoto said on Monday, as quoted by tempo.co.
Maryoto said the singer, whose full name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, also had a sponsor for her stay in Jakarta.
“The status of her sponsor is also clear for us,” he said, without elaborating on the sponsor’s identity.
He said that although Gaga has not been barred from entering the country, the Immigration Office cannot provide assurances about her upcoming Jakarta concert as it was up to other government agencies to decide on the event.
More than 52,000 tickets, with prices ranging from Rp 465,000 (US$50.75) to Rp 2.25 million, have been sold for the concert since they went on sale on March 10.

Comment        :
I will not defend anybody or any group. I just want to give an overview to FPI and Lady Gaga.
I think it is very excessive problem. Because only a Lady Gaga, a government take a part of this concert. They should be do their job to do country task than has to take a part of this.
There are a mistake from FPI and Lady Gaga. FPI is true. They don’t want Indonesian Teenagers has bad influence from Lady Gaga. As we know, Lady Gaga admits that she evil adherent. Hers dress is very sexy than the other celebrities who has concert in Indonesia before, like Katy Perry, Avril Lavigne, etc. But FPI shouldn’t be in extrems religion. FPI said if Lady Gaga still concert in Jakarta, they will burn Gelora Bung Karno. They never think that if they burn it, many Indonesian Teenagers will be victim and image of Indonesia is getting worst in the world.
And talking Lady Gaga, she is very stubborn woman. Katy Perry, the sexiest woman version on one of magazine of America willing to wear a dress for Asian. She wears not too sexy like she concerted in other country like Japan, America, and France. But Lady Gaga, she insist to wear a sexy dress and still admits that she is evil adherent. If she want fulfill many condition of Indonesia, I think there is no noise like this.
I hope it will be cleared soon. And I hope there is no violence in this country, because only a concert music like Lady Gaga.

Vocational school students assemble 2,000 laptops

Vocational school students of SMKN 3 Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara, have managed to assemble 2,000 laptops for fellow students in schools throughout the region since 2009.
The students have worked with various Indonesian computer companies that have provided spare parts for the laptops that the students would then put together.
Aside from laptops, the students have been asked to produce liquid crystal display (LCD) monitors.
“There have been 290 LCD units that have been produced between 2010 and 2011. The students will assemble an estimated 400 LCD units in 2012, aside from a predicted 600 laptop units,” SMKN 3 Mataram’s principal, Umar, said on Monday, as quoted by kompas.com.
No complaints have been made so far regarding any of the student-made products, Umar said.

Comment        :
I think a progress from students from Solo who made a car themselves make the other students accelerate make a new inovation for Indonesia. They want Indonesia has a good image in International so they study hard make a product with good quality which can compare with Japan, America, France, etc. I hope they will be supported by Indonesian’s Governance and if one day they had success, I hope they want to stay in Indonesia and make this develop country be a powerfull country.
