The Depok administration has officially banned minimarkets from operating 24 hours a day as of Tuesday.
The
administration said that the ban was issued due to the escalation in
nighttime store robberies, which appeared to occur more often to
minimarkets operating 24 hours a day.
Depok Deputy Mayor Idris
Abdul Somad announced the ban while visiting a minimarket in Depok on
Tuesday, saying “Therefore, there will be no more minimarkets operating
24 hours a day, starting today.”
The regulation, signed by
Depok Mayor Nurmahmudi Ismail on March 21, stipulates that minimarkets
are allowed to operate only from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., but may remain open
after 10 p.m. on holidays only if they obtain the relevant permits.
The Depok administration says it will revoke the permits of minimarkets that break the rule, tempo.co reported.
