The Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI) disciplinary committee
issued a new policy, allowing players of soccer clubs competing in the
banned Indonesian Super League (ISL) to be eligible for the national
soccer team selection.
“For the sake of the national team, it’s
not important from which league the player comes from. As of tomorrow,
national team coaches will cast all players in,” committee head
Bernhard Limbong said Tuesday.
Since December last year, the
PSSI had banned professional soccer players of the ISL from joining the
national squad due to internal conflict among association members.
Previously, the association had only recognized the Indonesian Premier
League.
The decision will allow top soccer players like
Persipura Jayapura's star striker Boaz Solossa to strengthen the
national soccer squad.
Limbong said that the decision was the
manifestation of the PSSI annual congress in Palangkaraya last month,
which has finally recognized the ISL.
He added that a reconciliation team would accelerate work to further implement the decision.
“ISL clubs and the PSSI should sit down together and find a solution,” he said as quoted by tribunnews.com. (swd)
